John ChoI just LOVE Harold and Kumar. Those movies are a sinful pleasure for me. Lucky for me John Cho who plays the stalwart Harold is in the new Star Trek movie. That affords me an opportunity to profile him and maybe introduce him to a few folks. Everyone, this is John. John this is everyone.

John has done a lot of American TV, I’m talking a ton. But most of it is/was guest spots here and there and at least one failed series (“Kitchen Confidential”). The same is true of the big screen work he’s done. John was in the edgy high school drama Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) and even bit parts on the American Pie series. But it wasn’t until teaming up with Kal Penn in the stoner classic Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and it’s sequel Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008) that John got some serious exposure. There was a fear that John was forever going to be known as the “MILF Guy” from American Pie or as Harold but now we’ve got The Trek. This guy better be prepared to go stellar. (Bear in mind, bad puns are way better than bad poetry.)

John is proud member of the Asian American acting community in Hollywood and one of the few fortunate actors who have found success. He often takes the time to voice his appreciation for the opportunities he’s been afforded in his career. Another passion of John’s in addition to acting and his family is music. He’s the lead vocalist for a band called Viva La Union (formerly known as Left of Zed). Viva La Union has recorded a CD though I doubt John’s had much time lately to play gigs. He’s a busy guy now: premieres to attend, interviews to give. I’m thinking it’s about damn time!
